The year is half over because we are in July. Depending on your point of view, there’s still half a year to go. Chances are high that some New Year’s resolutions you wrote down in your bullet journal six months ago have fallen by the wayside Even though we have heard about the benefits of meditation, it isn’t easy to make it a consistent practice.
The question of when and how to meditate can seem difficult, so SPY went to the experts for advice.

Everyone with breath can meditate. Who should be taking time? Five minutes at the same time every day is what people who think they don’t have time need to dedicate. They should dedicate 10 minutes a day if they think they don’t have enough time.
What Are the Benefits of Meditation?
Cohen says that practicing meditation helps you slow down. The only thing that we can control is our reaction to the experiences. It is almost like disengaging the clutch of a manual car when meditated. You can see the emotions and label them. If you notice that you are anxious about something, instead of letting the anxiety control your experience, you will be able to understand what reality is and what fiction is.
One of the major benefits of regular meditation practice iswaking up to life as it is happening right now. “You step into the best you that has been sleeping under a pile of to-do’s and all the other things that we subject our physical bodies to, in an attempt to numb ourselves from the endless stories we tell ourselves in our minds.”
How to Meditate
It looks different to everyone. If you are new to meditation, it is a good idea to begin your practice at home without any distraction.
There are several meditation apps and books that break down step-by-step how to meditate as well as explain the different types of meditation. Most types of meditation focus on deep breathing, scanning the body and reflection, which will affect how your practice looks and feels. Even as little as 10 minutes per day can have a big impact on reducing anxiety and improving focus.
People should start small and be realistic. It is often the expectations of ourselves that get in the way, such as, ‘I need to have more time, I can’t quiet my mind, my house is too noisy or I’ll start tomorrow.’ A single breath is what meditation is about. When that one is over, start again and move on.
Cohen says keep trying. It takes time and commitment before you see the results. But once you get there, it’s amazing.

Once a meditation practice has been established, people will be able to reap the benefits of centering themselves and entering a state ofMindfulness that helps to deal with stress and anxiety outside of their allotted daily meditation time. It’s nice to limit distraction, but eventually you should be able to sit with all the bells and whistles. It isn’t about clearing the mind or having a peaceful life. It is about being in reality and not thinking about why it is the way it is. The world becomes peaceful in return.

How to Set Up a Meditation Space
The home should be set up for meditation. You are more likely to integrate the practice into your life if you dedicate a small corner of your bedroom or office. You want to start well. There are different configurations of pillows. You don’t have to sit in a specific way. Do it if you have to have your back against a wall. Make it happen if you have to sit in a chair.
Cohen believes that having a space encourages use and builds rituals.
